About Azores Wine Company Proibida

Azores Wine Company Proibida is a red wine coupage of the Isabela, Vidueño varieties and a blend of local varieties of old vines, produced by the winery Azores Wine Company under the appellation Vinho Regional Azoreano, in the Azores, Portugal.

 

The story goes that Queen Isabella ensured the continuity of the vineyards on the islands after the phylloxera attack in the 19th century, so for many the Azores Wine Company Proibida wine is more than a wine, it’s the summary of about 200 years of history and folklore.

 

Azores Wine Company Proibida is made with grapes that are harvested by hand, pass through a selection table and enter the vat by gravity. In the winery they work under an oenology of minimum intervention which gives rise to a young red wine of low alcohol content and singular character born in an extreme terroir where proximity to the sea, the growth of the vines in volcanic soils and the islands’ Atlantic climate draws a unique and inimitable personality with precision.

 

2018 Azores Wine Company Proibida 2018 is a red wine with an exuberant nose where intense notes of passion fruit appear. Its passage through the mouth is profiled and fresh with a particularly saline character like few others. A spiced, elegant red wine.
