About Valduero 12 años Gran Reserva

Valduero 12 años Gran Reserva is a long aging red wine made with the Tempranillo variety in the D.O. Ribera de Duero (Castilla y León) by the Valduero winery.

Valduero is a pioneering family winery in the D.O. Ribera de Duero. Located in a small town near Burgos, Gumiel del Mercado, owner Gregorio García and his two daughters Yolanda and Carolina use their own low production but excellent quality vines and focus on long aging times in the winery. This results in harmonious and balanced wines that have won over consumers all over the world.

The Valduero 12 años Gran Reserva wine comes from the best grapes from three unique, high-altitude plots with vines aged 90, 60 and 42 years old. Planted in very poor and dry clay-limestone soils, production is limited to less than 4,000 kg / ha to cultivate superior quality berries. They use traditional agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually in 14 kg boxes when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

In the winery, the carefully selected Valduero 12 años Gran Reserva grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. Then the wine ages slowly and gently in oak barrels of 6 different origins. Finally, before being released for sale, it is bottled and kept in a deep cave with earth walls for a long time.


Thought to be one of the Top 40 Spanish Tempranillo wines, Valduero 12 años has also been chosen as one of “The Magnificent 7”, the seven most sought-after wines in the world, in a double blind tasting organised by Fine, a prestigious luxury publication whose subscribers include some of the wealthiest people of Central Europe.

 

Considered one of the Top 40 Spanish Tempranillo wines, Valduero 12 años Gran Reserva is immense, deep and very balanced. A gentleman of a wine that enjoys a very long life.

Valduero 12 Años Gran Reserva 2004 is an exceptional red wine offering a captivating aromatic complexity, with notes of blackberries, caramel, and gentle spices. On the palate, it combines flavours of blackcurrant and figs with hints of gingerbread and milk chocolate, all complemented by a delicate touch of violet. A wine that continues to exhibit a delightful fruit intensity and vibrant freshness, with softened tannins that reflect Valduero's mastery in crafting wines of great expression and elegance.
 
1999 Valduero 12 años Gran Reserva 1999 is a concentrated red wine with delicious, complex aromas of ripe black fruit, menthol notes and hints of leather, tobacco and wood. On the palate it is intense, deep and very elegant. To begin with, the entrance is velvety with a bright acidity and very well integrated tannins. The mid-palate is balanced and pleasant and the finish has a long and lasting aftertaste with memories of the aromas present on the nose.
