In 1994, CVNE, one of Spain's most significant family-owned wineries (established in 1879), introduced CVNE Asúa Reserva, a red wine that pays tribute to Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa, the founders of this winery. At that time, the production of CVNE Asúa Reserva was very limited and distributed only among its most loyal customers. Today, this detail (almost) goes unnoticed; however, CVNE Asúa Reserva continues to make history and leaves a lasting impression on the palates of those fortunate enough to secure one of its few bottles.
From the iconic city of Haro, in La Rioja Alta, CVNE Asúa Reserva emerges as the finest representative of the renowned Rioja fine wines. Quality and elegance are the hallmarks of this type of wine. And when we say that CVNE Asúa Reserva is the finest representative, we are not exaggerating. What makes it so appealing? Could it be its 18 months of ageing? Or perhaps the character imparted by the clay, limestone, and iron-rich soils?
The vineyard from which CVNE Asúa Reserva originates is located precisely in Haro, in the province of La Rioja Alta, within the best vineyards of the area. At an altitude exceeding 500 meters, the vines are monitored through periodic tastings and analyses. These examinations are meticulous, determining the perfect moment for the harvest. In this regard, the ripening depends on the weather, influenced by the Atlantic climate, with cold winds and occasional frost risks. Generally, the harvest is postponed until mid-October, when workers will collect the clusters in 20 kg boxes that will be quickly transported to the winery (just 5 km away). Once again, upon entering the winery, the grapes of CVNE Asúa Reserva will be selected and transferred to French oak and concrete vats for fermentation. After the yeast's work is done, the wine is racked, pressed, hot macerated (for a couple of days), and then transferred again to French oak barrels, where it will undergo malolactic fermentation and an 18-month ageing process.
CVNE Asúa Reserva is a delicacy. A privilege reserved for a select few. Not because of its price, but due to its typically very limited production. If the buy button allows you to add CVNE Asúa Reserva to your cart, don't hesitate for a second! And if you miss out, tough luck—you'll have to wait for the next opportunity. Not every day can you enjoy this gem of Spanish oenology.
