About Domaine de la Chappe André
Marcel, Michel, Mon Colonel, Thérèse, André… To drink a wine by Vincent Thomas is akin to opening a family album or delving into a novel filled with endearing characters. His cuvées transcend mere grape variety or vintage; they are soulful portraits, intimate nods that turn each bottle into a personal narrative.
It all began in 2003 when Vincent took over his family's vineyards in Tonnerre, in the northern part of Burgundy, and decided to chart a new course. What once seemed improbable—producing reds in this cool climate region—is now a reality. Thanks to climate change and the efforts of vintners like him, Tonnerre has established itself as a privileged terroir for balanced and delicate pinot noirs. With patience and conviction, Vincent has transformed the estate into a wholly organic vineyard, and since then, his goal has remained unchanged: fresh, honest wines brimming with life, identifiable by a unique language that speaks through labels adorned with faces, playful names, and a spirit that seems to whisper: “this wine has a story to tell you.”
Domaine de la Chappe, though modest in size, exudes dynamism. Vincent crafts numerous cuvées, many without added sulphites, to preserve the purity of the fruit and allow the terroir to express itself unfiltered. To achieve this, he does not limit himself to his own plots but collaborates with neighbouring vintners by purchasing organic grapes, thereby strengthening a local network committed to authentic and transparent wines.
Among them shines Domaine de la Chappe André, a pinot noir crafted in honour of Vincent's father. A red wine that perfectly embodies the character of Tonnerre: light, fresh, with a minerality born from its stony soils. Quite different from the more robust pinot noir of the Côte d’Or, here subtle elegance prevails, the unadorned fruit, and the freshness achieved through minimal intervention and a brief six-month barrel ageing.
In essence, Vincent Thomas does more than make wine. He constructs a universe where each label is a character, each bottle a story, and each sip an invitation to discover Burgundy from a different perspective: closer, more playful, and above all, profoundly human.
