In India, when welcoming guests, a traditional ritual known as puja is performed, during which a small mark (tilak) is placed on the forehead, typically using sandalwood paste or red colour, as a symbol of respect and welcome. In Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, one of the most significant traditions in receiving guests is the coffee ceremony, where the host roasts the coffee beans, grinds them, and prepares them in a special pot called a jebena. Meanwhile, in Japan, guests remove their shoes upon entering the home and are presented with a cup of green tea. Hospitality is a paramount virtue in cultures worldwide, and at Peralada, the century-old winery located in the DO Empordà (Catalonia), with its wines and cavas, has adeptly shared the richness of the land and Catalan culture with great aplomb across the globe.
It is under this premise that Obsequi de l'Empordà (Obsequio de Empordà) is introduced as a white wine that encapsulates a century of history, evolution, and passion from this region in the north of Catalonia. Crafted from the garnacha blanca and sauvignon blanc varieties, traditional agriculture is practised, and in the winery, the selected grapes, destemmed and pressed, ferment in concrete tanks at a controlled temperature of 15°C.
Intense, complex, and expressive, Obsequi de l'Empordà is a white wine with which Perelada has most effectively enlightened its guests. New, old, famous, or unknown visitors are all greeted with warmth and dedication. Much like a well-preserved tradition, Obsequi de l'Empordà is not merely a wine, but an invitation to explore the flavours and aromas of a land rich in history and culture.
